The 3rd Pride Parade in Tel Aviv of 2001
Tel Aviv, similarly to Berlin, is known for its progressive LGBTQAI scene. Israel’s ministry of tourism is exploiting the image of “gay friendly” TLV to attract millions of visitors each year, earning its nickname “the gay capital of the Middle East”. Today, the Tel Aviv pride parade is one of the biggest in the world, but the queer community is still far from having the right to legally marry or adopt children.
“I think it’s fascinating to show these photos of the pride parade of Tel Aviv from the early millennium years in Berlin of all cities. Tel Aviv and Berlin are two cities that represent islands of sanity in countries that are historically abundant with conflict and pain”
“I want to believe that the future will be brighter and more colorful than my 18 year old photos allow us to imagine”.
